What is the secret for Crispy Waffles?

As soon as you remove the waffle from the waffle maker, the key is air circulation. I gently wave them back and forth and then place them on a wire rack to finish cooling.

These crispy and fluffy waffles are simple to make and delicious every time. Keep them plain or add berries and chocolate chips for a fun twist.

Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 4 minutes
Total Time 4 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 cups All Purpose Flour
  • 3/4 cups Sugar
  • 3.5 teaspoons Baking Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 1.5 cups Buttermilk
  • 1 Stick or 1/2 cup Butter, Melted
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract

Instructions

1. Preheat the Waffle Iron
Turn on your waffle iron to preheat.
2. Mix the Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. This ensures the dry ingredients are evenly distributed.
3. Prepare the Wet Ingredients
In a separate bowl, beat the eggs lightly. Add the buttermilk, melted butter, and vanilla extract, and whisk until well combined.
4. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients
Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the bowl with the dry ingredients. Gently fold them together using a spatula or a wooden spoon until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are fine and will result in fluffier waffles.
5. Cook the Waffles
Scoop the batter into the preheated waffle iron, using about 1/2 cup of batter for each waffle (or adjust based on the size of your waffle iron). Cook 3–5 minutes, or until the waffles are golden brown and crisp. Place on a wire rack for air circulation and keep them warm in a 200°F oven if making multiple batches.

Serve immediately with your favorite toppings, such as fresh fruit, whipped cream, maple syrup, or a dusting of powdered sugar.

Notes

This is a great base recipe. Feel free to add ingredients to change the flavor such as berries or chocloate chips.

Make-Ahead Option: Cooked waffles freeze beautifully. Let them cool completely, then store them in an airtight container or freezer bag. Reheat in a toaster or oven for a quick breakfast treat.
